This week I follow the Birmingham & Fazeley canal up the Aston flight to Aston Junction then up the Farmers Bridge Flight where the canal dips underneath the city arriving into Brindley Place.

You asked for a look at my bike so youve got it, and watch as I run the gauntlet of traffic on Slade road to get under spaghetti Junction.

  1. How far is your daily commute? I commuted for the first time this week to work, 8 miles, it felt like it was never ending and took much longer than expected. Maps said 36 minutes and I must have taken an hour, it was slow going. But I done it twice this week, it felt great after doing it but during was awful, like I feel I could never do it or will never get better

  2. I used to run from Aston Junction to Spaghetti Junction about a 5k round trip – nice quiet stretch of the canal for both cyclists and runners. Bike looks ace by the way. I need to get the rear wheel sorted on my bike before I head back out on it on – hopefully soon!

  3. I love your rides through Birmingham, I am looking forward to a video about your restrap bag and what bike computer is on your bike please many thanks ❤❤❤❤❤

  4. Really enjoy your videos. I moved out of Birmingham in 2012 and moved to Canada in 2018. Watching your videos brings back a lot of memories and I enjoy seeing how the city has changed. I am originally from Sutton Coldfield and can relate to your journey every morning. When the weather improves maybe take your viewers to Barr Beacon. It’s got such an amazing overview of the city and a large portion of the West Midlands. Even the journey there is so scenic and lovely, through Streetly and the countryside. When you get to the top, the views are just amazing. Look forward to your next video and thank you very much for the history and updates, and seeing how the city brings back memories for me. Thank you!

  5. That Side by Side Georeferenced Maps Viewer is wicked! Thanks for mentioning it! I think next week you should set up some ramps and do an Evel Knievel – try jumping the queue of cars! 😂.

  6. Nice riding. Nice bike. What size tyres are you running? Im curious to know what bumpers you got on there? Ive ordered a gravel bike with 57mm tyre clearence so looking for bumpers. Hope you bought it on cycle to work scheme! Lot cheaper that way.

  7. What a great commute Brum to Fazeley is. Having used the Lichfield Road ( to your right) for many years during rush hour, I know which commute I'd prefer 😀.

  8. A little tip for the viewwers who use the towpaths, if ever your thirsty and empty your water bottles, the waterways facilities for the boaters all have taps, usually hidden but usable

  9. Love these videos, thank you. I commute from Sutton into Birmingham along newhall valley, Pype Hayes park and then down onto the canal at Holly lane then up and getting off just behind St. Chads. It’s a great commute. I’ve just signed up to the club too

  10. Nice bike check .. The tires are way too knobby for my teste, but at least on the E-bike they will be easy to pedal.. I usually gravitate to some sort of gravel tires like 42-50mm .. Feel like waste of the road otherwise.

  11. I love your videos, even though I'm not a cyclist these days. I know this stretch of canal from our cruising days. You're absolutely right it took us a full day, but it was so worth it. We're Brummies, but mooring up in the centre of town was like being a tourist, fabulous.
I always admire your cycling prowess. Such speed, confidence and consideration for pedestrians. I was never very confident and spent more time walking alongside the canal, pushing my bike, rather than cycling heehee.
Keep your loving videos coming x

  12. I occasionally ride into Birmingham, down the fazely section,up past Perry bar stadium and back to the black country, canyon have had a lot of problems with, batteries cracking on there E bike's, which can cause fires, while charging, check yours.🚴🚴

  13. Thanks for another lovely vid. That route on the canal sure does need a suspension fork with all of those raised bricks on the pathway…

  14. Hi very informative cycle ride I do cycle the canals mainly in the summer months but I don't know much about the history being from Ireland I found your video top notch and I have subscribed looking forward to more of the same

  15. My father was born in Slade Road Erdington in 1920. He worked as an apprentice at GEC Witton/Aston in the late 30s. He said that the big advantage of the canal system was that large loads could be delivered right into the factory. Every time a cargo arrived quite a large proportion of the shopfloor would help with unloading. He was a regular cyclist into old age and lived to 97. He would wish you well

  16. Came across this video as a random suggestion…… Thank you for sharing.
Haven't walked the canals in a few years but this has inspired me to get out and give them a go again once the weather warms up a bit.
You've got a new sub from me 👍💙🔥
