  1. That’s a really large range to try to pull off for a 38t chain ring. I know nothing about this particular derailleur, but I’d suggest checking the manufacturers suggested chain ring and “max chain wrap” if they have one. Chances are going up to even a 40t ring make this way better. That’s a lot of slack to pull out.

  2. Also, if I’m seeing this right, you’re not even able to reach the smallest cassette?

  3. This isnt a chainline thing O. Chainline is a measurement from the centre line outwards. In this case, your chain is likely too short. Check the largest cog and see where the derailleur cage sits. If it can go forward more then id probably add a link maybe 2.

  4. Need more pics. How does it look in the biggest tooth of the cassette. Is the chain length correct? Have you adjusted the b screw yet?

  5. Are you asking about the length of the chain? That looks about right to me. With the wide-range cassettes, you pretty much want the chain as long as possible without rubbing on itself when it’s in the hardest rear cog.

  6. It’s hard to tell chainline from that angle. You’d need to be sighting parallel to the long axis of the bike from the chainring to the cogset. Chainline is the distance from the center plane of the bike to the chain at the cogset (rear chainline) and from that plane to the chainring (front chainline).

I think you’re trying to ask something about the alignment of the derailleur and/or chain length. Chain length is not “way too long” because it doesn’t touch itself in the smallest cog, but could still be a little too long. For length (too long or too short), you’d have to show it shifted into the largest cog.

Or are you worried about the total deflection? That’s ultimately determined by the cogset itself and isn’t really adjustable.

Something does look odd about the cage length and the way it’s installed. Was that done professionally?

  7. Without more pics I’d say the derailleur isn’t mounted behind the little tab on the hanger, that’s why you’re hitting the chainstay before getting to the smallest gear.

  8. I’d say it’s 2 links too short but hard to tell without seeing the low gear.

Basically don’t remove links until posting photos of the low gear.
