Trying to figure out what these are for. The bike seems to be fairly high end given the machined chainstay yoke. xc frame from the year 2000 made by belgian brand thompson.
When i got the bike it came with a 3x chainring but the holes were unused. Some sort if custom chainguard is the only thing i can think of
The holes are spaced about 28.5mm appart and are a regular m5 thread. The bolts are supposed to be threaded from the bottom as its chamfered and i can only engage the bolt from that side.
Any info or weird ideas of what to mount there would be appreciated

Shark fin style chain guide?
Where do you route the cable for the rear derailleur? Maybe you can mount some routing things there.
It’s for an anti-chainsuck device. It was common on triple chainring MTBs
That frame looks like something out of the mind of Doug Bradbury.
My ’02 Gara Fisher has the same, supposedly there’s a plate that can be mounted that keeps the chain from getting stuck on gears while shifting
Mounting for a wear strip/chain guard like you’d see on motorcycles
