I bought a new bike recently and the rd came bent to the right (picture 3), with the chain hitting the rd when moving, but my mechanic adjusted with his hands and now it looks like what you can see in the pictures 1-2 (the chain also isn't hitting anymore).

He says it works fine, but I'm worried it might present some problems in the future…

Should I be concerned and make a warranty claim because it came bent (like picture 3) or should I just brush it aside because now it apparently looks fine (picture 1-2) and is working fine after a little adjustment by my mechanic?

I know the right thing to do would be to activate the warranty as it is a new bike and shouldn't have anything messed up, but it is a pain in the ass and would take a long time to get it all done has I have bought it online

Will it affect much when riding the bike?

  1. Claim the warranty, ask them to send you a new RD. It’s a relatively cheap part (especially at this tier of gear) and swapping it out is very easy. Otherwise nothing to worry about so if it shifts fine, just go ride!
