You’ll see at the very base of the tube, there is a straight untapered part. That’s where your crown race should sit, no gap under it. You can use a tool like this or an equivalent to hammer it down as it is press fit

I suggest putting a dab of grease under the race before installation to prevent corrosion between the parts
