what’s up with the long cable run

On the Derailleur hanger, the part on the bike that sticks down that you mount the derailleur on. It should have a little tab that sticks out. If you look at the derailleur, where it mounts to the hanger, you should see the end of a screw. That’s your B limit screw. It needs to be ON TOP of the tab on the hanger when you install it. The B limit screw adjusts the angle of the derailleur body. It looks like you installed it with the B limit below/infront of the the tab on the hanger so your derailleur has nothing preventing it twisting forward like yours is now.

The cable is also way too long.
