Hi everyone. This bike has been sitting for the past 10 years and I’m looking to restore/resto-mod it and I’d like some suggestions. Tires are rotted so I’m waiting on replacements so I can ride it around and make sure everything else is in working order. I’ve cleaned a lot of the rust off the polished surfaces and I’m going to replace the grip on the handle bars. Bike chain will also be replaced. Would you upgrade the shifter system on this model?
I can’t find a ton of info the Sportif. I get a lot of results for Raleigh Sports models and in this sub, I’ve only found two other posts about this bike. I know it’s mostly made in Taiwan and it’s a low-end trim by Raleigh standards but still a beautiful bike. I’d like any other info on it or if you have one, I’d love to see it! Pictures of the Spirtif are also hard to come by.
My goal with this bike it to use it to commute to BJJ practice, a local coffee shop on the weekend, and the occasional last minute grocery pick up (nothing crazy). I used to have a rack on the rear wheel but I don’t know when it was removed. Hoping to add a few storage bags for a pump and small items. Let me know what you guys think! I’m excited to bring it back to life.
