I was biking home from work today and almost got run over by someone in a truck. I’m looking for advice on what I could have or should have done differently.

A truck was reversing out of a driveway. I stopped and waited anticipating he was pulling out then going to proceed to drive forward. I was multiple car lengths behind him stopped. He reverses out then stops, I assume to pull forward. I remain stopped. Then he continues to reverse without looking behind him into the open spot next to me almost running me over.

My question is what should or could I have done differently to avoid narrowly getting run over? The only thing I can think of is waited even further back but I didn’t have the time to stop sooner and I didn’t think he was pulling all the way back to park.

He finally stopped almost crushing me as I swerved into the middle of the street left to avoid him hitting me. I do regret flipping him off as he threw his arms up as if it was as all my fault.

You should get a loud horn. It will help in this situation. Both of my bikes get horns for situations that drivers don’t typically see me.

Also, get blinking see me lights.

Nothing you could personally do. On-street parking is known to be dangerous for both cyclists and drivers.
