Only the front wheel have this problem, rear wheel seems ok but Im keeping an eye on it too.
Seems to me that the protection layer have started to peel off. How concerning is this?
My dad bought this used around 5 years ago. Havent had any punctures nor serious damage.

Replace it. I was getting these strings on my Gatorskins this summer. I kept just pulling the strings off or cutting them.
Eventually I was going for a bike ride one day and my tube popped out through my tire.
No problem! It will take you right to the scene of the accident…. /S
I burn those loose threads with a lighter before it can be as bad as in your picture.
It’s fiiiiine. It will resolve itself perfectly if you’re going downhill at full speed with no helmet! /s
