The seventh stage of the race headed further eastwards towards the French Alps on a hilly 159.7-kilometre (99.2 mi) course from Bourg-en-Bresse to Chambéry. The stage had three categorised climbs (two second-category and one fourth-category), with the second-category climb of Col du Granier (8.9 km with an average gradient of 5.4%) leading to a “fast and technical” descent to the finish in Chambéry
