Went to check this bike out today. It's an older Marin Sausalito. From reading it sounds like Marin is considered a good brand, but i couldn't find anything on this specific bike. I liked how it handled – it felt like riding my old Jamis Explorer if my old Jamis explorer was a hardtail. Did well on cobble, went into grass okay. It was nice hitting a 1" jump in the concrete and *not* feeling it in my hands. The frame did feel heavier than what I'm used to, but I don't know if that would be a dealbreaker for me.
What i am worried about is that it seems like it's been neglected. The brakes squeaked and didn't stop efficiently – like there wasn't a point when i felt them "grab" the wheel. I've never had disk brakes, so i have no clue if they need replacement or just some TLC. The seller said they just needed to have the grit cleaned out and did adjust the caliper, but they still weren't breaking well. Similar issue with gear shifting – it wasn't smooth and to me the… cassette? Gears? Look worn and chipped. I also think i see rust on some spokes but I have no idea if that's even a problem.

It is in the ballpark for a ridable bike, especially with disc brakes. Most of what I see from the pictures is cosmetic rust on bolt heads. Chain looks like it could use some degreaser and a relube. If it shifts fine and stops even with some noise it is a functional bike. This is nowhere near a neglected bike. Did you try negotiating in person?
