Had one of these in college, sold it to an acquaintance for beer money, on the condition that if he sold it, he had to sell it back to me. He then proceeded to “lose it” within days.

Years passed, frontal lobes developed, empires rose and fell, but i could never get over the fact that i sold a piece of history for a buzz. Fast forward 15 years to one fateful day at a bike swap… there she was. in the corner, by her lonesome. All dressed up but nobody to dance with. Chrome glistening under the fluorescent lights, gumwalls tastefully yet seductively on display with perky little nubs practically begging to get torn off in a loose corner. I Walked by once… slowly, with a quick glance back so she would know that i saw her, and that i wanted her. I perused from booth to booth, inspecting various components and accessories, talking with vendors, trying to act casual but inside i was burning up. I had to have her, NOW. Walked back over to where she was and there was a thin, balding man standing beside her.

“shes a real beaut, clark” i say. He chuckles. “ yeah man, had a lot of fun times on this bike”

Turns out he was the original owner. At least that what he said, and i believed it. Not that it made any difference, i wasnt leaving without her.

A couple minutes of chit chat, a 5 second test ride and a liitle haggling later, she was all mine. I beamed. All those years of self loathing had finally come to an end. All was right in my world again. I was complete.

And with that; i present to you ladies, gentlemen, and others… Maxine, the pride of my stable.

(Rides off stage left)
