I usually have a bag on my backrack or am wearing a backsack so I pick up all sorts of freebies off the side of the road. Recently I’ve scored some nice cups and mugs, a jigsaw, some screwdrivers, wrenches, other hand tools, I even rode home with a barstool across my handlebars a few months ago

I found several pairs of Oakley ski goggles littered on the highway that fell off of a distribution truck. Most were broken from impact, but salvaged a few complete pairs.

    I put it back.

it’s not just a boulder, it’s a rock! oh the pioneers used to ride these babies for miles!

  5. A few weeks ago I found a white Xbox 360 Gibson Explorer style guitar hero controller in great condition with original sticker sheet in the street, not even on the sidewalk, on a bridge downtown. I was and am so confused. Still need to sell that thing.

I found a wallet. The guy who I have it back to me sent me a $200 gift certificate for sushi.

  7. Found an old fillet brazed Schwinn Sport Tourer that someone had left out on the bike path. I guess they tried to pump the dry-rotted tires and ride away with the rusted solid chain but just abandoned it once they got a flat.

Stripped it down and keeping it for a fixed gear build in the future.

I was out riding one night and my front light was running out of battery when I came across a fully charged light on the ground, same brand but newer, that fit in my light mount.

8 or 9 dumped bike wrecks in total, all separate occasions. When they are clearly dumped unwanted wrecks, I take them home to salvage for parts or to fix up. I have plenty of stories about these bikes if anyone cares! (I’m basically like an old man who loves to share fun stories)

A second one of my favourite handlebars

A third one of those exact handlebars (basic swept back raw shiny aluminium city bike handlebars, common on older city bikes but super comfy)

    A phone mount

    A 650B rear wheel

    A working powerbank

  10. A baby grand piano. I raced home, borrowed a trailer and picked it. The wood was in bad shape but the cast iron harp and strings were all intact so I made a sculpture out of it those parts. It went to a public art loan program for two years and then I sold it to a collector after.

  11. A lot of tools like a pry bar, 1m aluminum ruler, multiple screwdriver, alan wrench set,
Also a kitchen knife 30cm and 2 wallets on seperate occasions with all documents inside one with 500+EUR – both returned to the owners.

I found a bike tail light on the overseas highway by Stock Island. It was working and I continued to use it for the next year

I found a wallet on campus with a drivers license and a fake ID. I tried to contact the guy but never heard back and his real 21st bday was like a week later, no cash, no debit card. Honestly was probably a dumped stolen wallet now that I think of it

Found a quarter inch ratchet and a 6mm socket and a couple of metric hex keys. A bike repair kit for free!

I found a fancy metal box about 8X4 filled with meth, needles and Q-tips. Called the sheriffs office to dispose of it.

Just this morning I found a crank brothers multi tool, the nice one with the chain breaker. I was just thinking yesterday how dumb it was that I carry a spare master link and no chain breaker! I found my favorite bike light too while riding. The silicone strap was broken, but I wrote to the manufacturer to buy a new one and they sent me one for free. (NiteRider)

When I was a courier, I’d find all kinds of stuff in the downtown core. I’ve found pocket knives, money, tools, drugs. It’s wild the things either just forget, or discard. Ground scores are one of the little things that make biking rad.
