Hi all, I got a flat and went to replace it, and saw that my rim tape slipped quite a bit inside my tire, to the point where it was a pain to get the valve out, and putting a new one in will require me pushing the tape to the side to do so. Is this a sign that I should replace it, or am I alright to stretch the hold and keep riding it? The rest of the rim tape looks good still. TIA!

Buy slightly wider helicopter tape off amazon. It’s cheap. Works better. This stuff sucks. Guarantee leaks and issues. Just do it right from the jump and move on w your life.

  2. That’s a “rim strip”, not “rim tape”, and the pedantic difference is that it’s not adhesive, nor is it intended to seal a tubeless setup. It simply snaps over the rim edge into the bed and serves to keep the inner tube from aneurysming into the spoke holes. There’s nothing wrong with yours. There’s no need for replacement. Slide it if you want, but that can be difficult if it’s a tight fit. Either way, no real issue shown. Trim the small amount of plastic overlapping the valve hole if you want. Not a big deal.
