The Spree Forest „Spreewald“ is a large inland delta some 100 km southeast of Berlin.
The whole area is a designated UNESCO biosphere reserve since 1991.
The Cucumber Cycle Path is a circular route of about 250 kilometers in Brandenburg through the wetlands of the Spreewald.
It owes its name to the Spreewald gherkins, a culinary delicacy that Theodor Fontane found to be at the top of the list of regional agricultural products as early as the 1870s during his wanderings through the Mark Brandenburg.
