Got some new ultegra pulley wheels. Do people apply a thin or light grease to the area circled red, where the dust cap makes contact? I have some finish line ceramic grease that I could dab on, although it might just attract and build up muck?
I suppose these pulley wheels don’t come with grease in the area I am questioning but wanted to get feedback.
When I watch videos of people cleaning or servicing their pulley wheels they always apply grease in this area

Hi if there are new just do nothing. put it like it is cuz grase in out side will take all dirt
That’s a sealed bearing, so I would not put any grease between the bearing and the cap. It’ll just collect dirt.
No need.
No reason to be doing that unless you want to increase drag and accelerate getting grit stuck close to the lip of the seal. I’d leave them be and worry about popping off the seals and adding grease many many miles from now.
I think there are some cheaper level pulley wheels that do not have bearings. I could see the reason for using a bit of grease then… but definitely not with sealed bearings.
There sealed bearings sealed bearings Dont need grease, ever, even as maintenance.
