Hey everyone,

I’m planning my first longer bikepacking trip and would love some real-world input from people who have done something similar.

Plan (roughly):

Start: Antwerp, Belgium

Destination: Moselle Valley (thinking Trier / Cochem area)

Route: via Liège + Ardennes, mostly rivers and rolling terrain

Duration: ~7 days total, round trip

Sleeping: small 2-person tent + campgrounds

Pace: ~70–90 km/day, not racing, stopping in towns for food/water

Bike:

Granville trekking / hybrid bike (upright geometry, flat bars, rear rack, triple chainring). Not a gravel or road bike, more of a classic European “do-everything” bike. (Photo from the day I bought it)

I’m especially curious about:

How long did it take you day by day?

Any sections that were harder than expected?

Things you wish you knew before going?

Must-see places along the Moselle or on the way there?

Is the Ardennes part manageable when loaded, or should I expect some suffering?

Also very interested if anyone has done a similar trip on a trekking or city-style bike, not just gravel or touring rigs. Did the bike choice ever feel like a limitation?

Any tips, warnings, route tweaks, campsite recommendations, or “don’t miss this” advice are very welcome.

Thanks in advance, this sub has already convinced me that this trip is a good idea (or at least a memorable one).
