Replacing the mechanical disc brakes on an older Kona with hydraulic MT200s. Rear brake was no problem. Front brake is a different story. I have tried loosening the mounting bolts, holding the brake lever, and retightening several times. I have made sure the QR skewer is properly secured. I have tried to place index cards between the pads, loosen the caliper, and retighten it. The actual channel for the rotor on the caliper seems to not want to align. The rotor is eating the plastic on the caliper part closer to the inside. I tried to put a spacer on the bolt that connects the fork to the caliper post, but that didn’t work. Hopefully that makes sense – no clue what else to try!

  1. If the last caliper worked well then the issue is this caliper

A file can adj the mounts of the caliper

  2. What probably happened was that the person that built the bike filed down the caliper mount area instead of filing down the frame. So you can either take a file to your frame or your new calipers to align it.

That side-mount looks like a nightmare. It looks like the problem is with the upper mounting bolt area. It almost looks like the caliper body is twisted.
*assuming the wheel and disc are mounted properly.

Your previous brakes probably had cup and cone washers to adjust alignment? This case, you’ll need to have your IS mounts on your fork faced.

Dont file the caliper. That’s stupid.
