The L’Étape du Tour 2026 is being described as the toughest route in recent memory — and after riding and working on these roads for 17 years, it’s easy to see why.

In this video, I break down the L’Étape du Tour 2026 route map, section by section, explaining how it looks on paper — and how it really feels on the road. Starting in Bourg d’Oisans and finishing in Alpe d’Huez via the Col de Sarenne, this 170 km high-mountain sportive packs over 5,400 metres of climbing into one relentless day.

  1. I've managed to get a spot in L'etape 26🥳. Always wanted to do the Marmotte but this ticks those boxes and more. I've sub 7'd the Fred Whitton this year so hoping for a good show with some good training….though I've never done that altitude so a little anxious

  2. Great video, I completed the étape 2025 with a non working sram red rear mech stuck in just above mid cassette and nearly killed me. I’ve also ridden the alp, telegraph and galibier but not on the same day. Looking forward to the 2026 route😂 thanks in advance for the map.
