  1. I don’t understand your question. Technically it’s just a downgrade not an upgrade. You have 3×7 and you just need to get rid of two chain rings and the front derailleur?

And then you could change the remaining middle chain ring to a 38 or 40 teeth narrow wide chainring…🤷‍♂️

  2. peacefulhectarez on

    I’d leave it alone.

You don’t really gain anything by getting rid of the other two chainrings, and you’re not going to be able to switch to a “proper” 1x drivetrain (ie 1×10 or 1×11) without rebuilding the rear wheel.

If your chainrings and/or front derailleur are broken and you don’t want to fix them, just buy a cheap Prowheel crankset with the chainring you want.

  3. Get a wide ratio 7 speed freewheel. I have 11-28 on one bike. They make 11-34 if you need it

    Keep the same rear derailleur

Put on a single speed front crankset. Find one that includes the bottom bracket. [https://www.amazon.com/BOLANY-Crankset-Integrated-Chainring-Bracket/dp/B0BDK8S3W5](https://www.amazon.com/BOLANY-Crankset-Integrated-Chainring-Bracket/dp/B0BDK8S3W5)

    Take the front derailleur off

I don’t know much but this worked for me

  4. I’m in the process of doing this to my gt tempest.

I’m buying the parts online and plan on bringing it to a shop.

    I bought a shimano 7 speed 14-28 freewheel off Amazon , new chain and a 38t chainring,

I plan on keeping my old cranks, also shimano, and adding them to the new chain ring. I’m hoping my current derailer will work, going down to just the back brakes

  5. Don’t shift.

I kid, but my front deraileur seized years ago so effectively I have 42t chainring and 7 speed 11-34 freewheel.

Why are you interested in this? The smaller rings will be there if you need em.

If you really like 1x save up for cranks, chainring, rear wheel, cassette and deraileur. 1×10-1×12 will be much more enjoyable than 1×7

Btw the bike looks great as is

  6. I wouldn’t change it. It works. Bike looks good. Most importantly- are you enjoying riding it?
