I’ve been riding a Golden Cycle fixie for a while now and I’m considering upgrading to the State Bicycle Co. 6061 Black Label v3. I ride primarily in the city on paved roads and bike paths, so nothing too crazy terrain-wise, but I do put in consistent miles.
Any thoughts on this upgrade?
I’m pretty committed to the fixed gear life. I love the simplicity and connection to the ride. My current Golden Cycle has served me well, but I’m wondering if the jump to the State 6061 is worth it for the quality difference.
Also, if anyone has suggestions for alternative upgrade options, I’m all ears.
Photos of my current bike, and the one I’m considering.
Thanks in advanced.

I personally prefer the chrome look. I would be focusing instead on upgrading the running gear, but that is all personal preference. Wheels, hubs, brakes, chain, touchpoints etc etc.
I get a bit sentimental about my bike, if I have ridden with it a while, it becomes something to upgrade rather than replace. Machine spirit and all that.
“Worth it” has a lot of factors attached to really understand if something is or isn’t IMO.
Ask yourself:
* Why do I need a new bike?
* What are my cycling goals?
* What’s my disposable income situation?
Performance wise, I doubt you’ll get much difference. If you’re not racing track or anything that likely doesn’t matter. If you have the disposable income and it makes you feel nice to have a new bike, then maybe go for it?
