I believe mechanical disks work on a lobed cam,so when the pads are too worn the lobe is able to move past its endpoint to which it starts disengaging ,I could be horribly wrong but I have seen other commentors with thia problem

  2. Probably need a new caliper if it can’t be adjusted out. These cheaper mechanical disc brakes have a ball bearing that rides on a ramped groove and that groove might be worn out, causing it to slip. All-in under $100 if you get a shop to fit it. Cheaper if you just buy the caliper and fit it yourself. I’d grab a new brake cable while you are at it.

  3. looks like the caliper has been misaligned, and one side is so far off the rotor it can’t reach it properly

  4. My recommendation would be to loosen brake cable at caliper and then re-tighten, sometimes these mechanical brake calipers get over tensioned at the caliper and “lobe over”

Shop shouldnt charge you more than $50

Calipers are off center. There’s usually slip allowed in the mounting screws/bolts that let you adjust the caliper to be centered on the rotor.

You’re gonna wanna just throw that right in the bin and grab some basic hydraulics like some Shimano mt500s ect. Honestly will be a game changer compared to crapshoot mechanical brakes.

  7. Calliper needs adjusting.

Also it’s not a trail bike..it has a kick stand so it’s a shopping bike.
