      I’ve enjoyed my castelli “ultimate puffy” jacket, it’s just a lightly insulated water resistant layer with no goretex (unlike castellis well-reviewed goretex jackets) but it did great during an absolute downpour this year, as well as during normal dry cold weather. Got it on sale, don’t remember what I paid but certainly not full price

      Goretex Shakedry jackets are the go-to for people who want light, packable, and water resistant. Many folks who live in the PNW swear by them.

      I have a ShowersPass jacket for long, wet, rides and it works pretty well. After 6 years some seams need to be resealed/taped. I also have a Voler packable rain jacket that I take when I might get hit with a sprinkling. It’s not meant to withstand hours in the rain, and lacks any ventilation, but its light, packable, and does its job. It’s also great for a wind-breaking layer on cold descents.

      I found layering is the best way so a base layer and then a warmer long sleeve jersey layer

      For a jacket I pick a straight rain jacket/cape it’s lightweight. I can fold in my back pocket and put on when the rain is bad. Long as you got vents so you don’t boil in the bag get wet from the sweat from the inside.

      Rapha used to do a ln Ok priced race cape. The Corsa Rosso from Castelli is cheaper
      Their Gabba line for really wet.. think more wetsuit that fully dry boil from the inside..different solution…

      Spending all my budget on a jackket…IMP don’t go too thick or warm..too thick to wear for all but the coldest days limits my wardrobe.

      A lighter rain cape then makes sense in the spring and autumn days that aren’t that cold and you can just put it over your short sleeved top.

      I also like to get a waterproof/ resistant cap to go under the helmet. Gore make a good one, nice peak.

      If your’e looking for water resistant and breathable, and not waterproof (and therefore much less breathable), I think you’d be happier with something like the Gore Lupra vs the Gore Endure.

      I’ve used various GoreTex jackets over the years, and all have been ok. For the last 12 months I’ve been using an Endura GV500 jacket and it’s been absolutely phenomenal. Very lightweight, waterproof, hood and by far the most breathable jacket I’ve owned. It isn’t feature rich which may put some people off, but it’s by far the best value waterproof I’ve ever owned.

      where are you riding u/Cesar_Cees? as other have mentioned, Gore-tex is fine at keeping water out but def hot af after even a short time. i ride and commute in PNW and use highly water resistant shells as a compromise between internal (sweat) vs external (rain) moisture management.

      If it’s lighter rain I often just go with castelli nanoflex armwarmers ( love em ) and a vest with some water protection. I also have the [ornot micro climate](https://www.ornotbike.com/collections/jacket-and-vests/products/micro-climate-jacket-stone-blue?variant=39265763459137) jacket which is pretty good for norcal weather.

      I really like a hoodless jacket for cycling in the rain, hoods don’t work with helmets and flap in the wind. I have a Mormont shake dry style that I like

      Depends on the temperature range you’re looking for. One of my favorite “jackets” is the Castelli Perfetto ROS 2 “jacket”. It’s good 40f to 60f with different base layers, either lightweight and wicking or a heavier thermal base layer. It’s good for light rain and wet conditions, has side vents and is close fitting, so doesn’t flap.

      If spending a lot of money on a cycling jacket, I would be sure to get one with Polartech Neoshell fabric. It’s far more breathable than anything made by goretex or any other brand. It makes a huge difference. It breathes better than goretex with vents open.

      I know specialized has one that is cycling specific, but several brands do.

      Gore-tex is just a label that makes the jacket cost $100 do not buy anything with that shitty companies logo on it.

      They are also a big part of the reason we have teflon in our bodies literally everyone on the planet.
