It always seemed strange to me, that my Garmin came with such a short USB cable. It was only today that I thought to do this, after 2 years of ownership. 🥴

I see your intent here, but keep in mind that anything that slips behind that charger and touches the metal blades can short one blade to another directly. That’s a bit of a fire hazard. Folks have had metal necklaces fall into a similar position and had a major electrical arc.
You could try hanging the lanyard further forward on the charger for a safer option.
Can’t you just buy a longer cable for a few $ or something?
This reminds me that I need to find that little cord and attach it to my Garmin before it shakes loose from the mount one day
I think the lanyard is for security on the bike. Not for charging.
