Looking at replacing a Shimano 2x left frt der. Shifter. Tiagra has some options with a flat mount hydraulic brake. My older fork is post mount and would need an adapter like this:

Anybody have an opinion if this is a good idea. I believe I have to go up a rotor size to 180.

Make sure your fork and hub have clearance for a 180 rotor
Unless you already have a flat mount caliper (and even if you already do), iirc the Br-m6100 (and older br-rs785) post-mount caliper is officially compatible with road levers.
Shimano doesn’t really have a post mount road brake anymore, but they might still be producing a Ultegra RX brake calipers, hard to find, but authorized dealers should be able to order it for you. You could also look into getting Deore M6100 series brake caliper. I fit one on a customers bike with a dead brake and it worked out good. Had a good pull on it. Also tried MT-200 calipers but there was not enough pressure to stop properly.
Looking at the price of a caliper vs the adapter, caliper is cheaper. You could also sell off the Tiagara caliper to recover some money. I don’t thinking slapping a 180mm front rotor is a good idea, brakes might get too good.
