just for all non-scots, at edinburgh castle there's the one o' clock gun, an artillery cannon that's fired at 1pm every day.
i met a yank he asked me where i was from when I said Shotts he asked me what state that was in I just said aye it's in an awful state!!!
Wellll….in my area we do have a high school that looks like a castle. Was once intended to be a hotel in the 1890's. Gun shots – yes, for that town, anywhere.
This would have been the first school shooting ever if the one in Pennsylvania didn't happen in 1764.

Years ago when I was visiting the castle, there was an American couple asking one of the attendants what the Scottish word for a sword was. He just replied "sword" and caught my eye. We both smiled. She was obviously thinking of a claymore but not the answer he gave.
