I'm thinking about picking up an ebike at some point and just for peace of mind since the 1 1/4 says 50lbs weight limit per tray I'd like to convert to a 2". I have a 2" hitch now so there really isn't any reason not to go 2" on the rack.

Just wondering if I can get away with just the second one, hitch bar and side plates, pretty cheap or if I need the whole shebang.

  1. I was in the same position. I ended up keeping an eye on facebook marketplace/ craigslist and picked up a 2″ one and sold mine.

  2. Yes I did. I went and bought the new base and side plates, and transferred my rack over to it. Tho I went with 2″ heavy duty not super duty

    Invoice says:
2″ Hitch Bar Slotted with Side Plates

  3. I did this when I changed vehicles and it worked perfectly. Much more secure now than it was with the 2″ adapter. I have a second tray too with zero issues

  4. I did this to a Quikrack. Purchased the 2″ with the side plates for an HD. Super easy install

  5. Yes. You can buy the 2″ bar. But note that the screws will often corrode into the aluminum (it seems they don’t use anti-seize during assembly) so taking them apart can be a giant PITA depending on how you’ve used it.

  6. I asked 1upUSA same question and they told me to get hitch bar with side plates. Have not ordered yet.

  7. Made the change with the hitch bar and side plates. They had some in their scratch and dent section a couple of months ago when I ordered.
