I got into social biking last year. Current bike is a hand-me-down mens mountain bike. Now that I'm doing mostly road/social rides 1-2 times a week in the warmth, I think it's worth looking for a more fitting bike. I'm trying to snag a bike off of facebook marketplace, but I really just want to know WHAT type of bike to look for.

Some things I want/issues with my current bike:

  • I want a more comfortable seat. I've used a women's seat/cruiser seat a long time ago, and it made the whole experience so much more enjoyable. I added a seat cover to the mountain bike, but it's still uncomfortable.
  • I want a rear rack.
  • Later in the season, I began having constant wrist pain. I think this just means I need higher handles than what's on the bike I linked (I might have to check if these are adjustable…)
  • I've been told I should switch, because mountain bikes are heavy for the mostly road riding I'm doing now. The weight has never bothered me, but It's also all I've ridden in years, so idk.

Considerations:

  • F 23, 125lbs
  • I live in a NY river valley, so it's hard to avoid hills. Just from social biking, I've seen people on 1-speed bikes really struggle.
  • I don't plan on ever racing or doing proper mountain biking. But in the past I've biked to commute, and would again in the future.
  • I'm doing rides from 10-20 miles at a time, 1-2 times a week.
  • I'll occasionally use this bike in the winter.
