Hi there everyone! I recently started biking for exercise (beginner), but after a little while I can feel carpal tunnel and some numbness in my thumbs. For the experts out there, is there a certain way to grip or position my hands/body/saddle to avoid this?? Included a photo of the type of bike so you could see handle type. Yes, I’ve had carpal tunnel in the past, but it stays away provided I don’t re-aggravate it. Thank you! 🚲 😊

Don’t buy a Huffy.  It won’t be enjoyable and won’t be reliable.  Go to a bike shop and get a bike that fits properly.

  2. Seating position as well as saddle style can greatly contribute to numbness and pain if it is incorrectly set up. Checkout r/bikefit and maybe post a video of you riding the bike if you can.

  3. Cycling gloves can help. Cork grips are good.  Above all, make sure you have a good fit, bend your elbows and relax your grip on the bars.  A higher performance bike will give a smoother ride but won’t help if your fit and position aren’t good.

  4. Fitting is key as mentioned before, maybe also try different grips that may work better with your hands/hand usage on the bike.
