I’m looking to convert my 2x drivetrain to 1x and could use some guidance on purchasing my chain ring. (Pictures are provided for reference.)

1) I have a 11-46t cassette and a SRAM GRX 2.1 rear derailleur ready for install.

2) I’m purchasing a new chain in the coming days. I was thinking a KMC X10.

Based on my digging, I think I need a 32T chain ring up front. Does that seem right? Any tips and advice would be appreciated.

32-46 will be a good climbing gear, so ideal for your mountain bike. I would recommend upgrading to a 51 tooth shimano drivetrain in the back if you feel like you need a lower ratio, but i know some people that use 32-46 for some steep and long climbs.

Definitely get a narrow wide chainring to avoid dropped chains. They can range from amazon specials to really nice pieces of billet machinery, where the major difference being durability. I have run both kinds and they both work great for chain retention.

Make sure you measure the BCD(bolt circle diameter) of your cranks to get the right chainring, any bike shop will do that for no charge, or it may be stamped onto your current chainrings. You will also need single speed chainring bolts

Most mtbs will have a 32-51 or a 34-51 for shimano drivetrains(11 or 12 speed only).
10 speed chains are 10 speed chains so the one you have will work, but you would likely get the best shifting with a shimano 10s chain. Debatable, though.
I love 1x and i never looked back!
