Might be a tad too big, but I’d definitely go out to try it out. You could probably talk him down to 260$. I’d bite on this.
This is set up as a time trial bike. It will be extremely uncomfortable for commuting. The price seems high for the age too, but maybe it’s more valuable than I think it should be.
It has 650C wheels, so sourcing tires and even tubes will be a chore. Plus, Triathlon bikes have rather aggressive geometry so it won’t be comfortable for commuting or just riding around town. I figured it all out a long time ago because I too once had my eyes on that bike from the very same post.
FYI check the initial posting date. It’s been up since I first got into biking earlier this year. That should give you a clue that it’s not for everyone. Check out FB Marketplace, it usually has better deals on average.
Zero chance. Dude, just look up State Bicycle Co. Brand new bikes for $500, which is what that bike will cost by the time it has a tune up, chain, tires, and whatever corroded bearings replaced.
Then, if it doesn’t work out and you’re not into it, it’s much easier to sell a “near new” bike.
Edit: and, per their website, the discounts are 30% right now.
I’m 5’8” and my 54cm steel tube bike is just barely small enough. 1 inch smaller bike, 3 inch smaller human. Make sure you give it a test drive before buying at the least.
We cyclists need to stop supporting bike theft in the name of “a good deal”
It’s a high quality steel vintage frame with a great vintage groupset, for a reasonable price…..
The problem is that it’s a triathlon bike – basically a dedicated race bike designed for doing a time trial in a swimsuit. It doesn’t make for a good general purpose bike, at all. The geometry is all wrong, and it uses a super weird wheel size that will be a bitch to get replacement parts for.
I’d pass.

That’s my bikes kidnapped brother.
