In this video I cycle the entire length of the Rochdale Canal from Manchester to Sowerby Bridge on the towpath, around 35 miles in total.

See why itโ€™s one of the best canals for cycling in the UK, full of boats, canal history, railway architecture and some truly epic scenery.

I also apologise to the residents of Smithy Bridge near Littleborough for calling their home town Smithy Green, I only realised this after watching the video post publishing. Smithy Green is the name of a road near where I live! ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

  1. Another great adventure, John, I couldn't do that, I'd get lost a lot ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿคฃ Merry Crimbo mate, to you and the family ๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿป๐ŸŽ„โ˜ƒ๏ธ

  2. As a keen mountain biker and narrow boat owner I've travelled along that route many times as I also live local to Rochdale, yes the scenery is awesome as yo get closer to Hebden bridge and you can also see many unsavoury people on route but non as scary as you go through Manchester especially near canal street and below the buildings…. It's ashame a few can spoil the calm, it appears they find the bridges and tunnels and locks as an out of the way place to hang around…

  3. I live on a beautiful stretch of the Rochdale canal! Lovely anytime of the year and in any weather! Your video is lovely and I especially liked the central Manchester part. So many beautiful things to see in central Manchester that get completely overlooked! โค

  4. Thanks for the mention John ๐Ÿ‘
Once you climb out of Littleborough towards the Yorkshire border, the scenery through the Walsden gorge is second to none.
Hope you enjoyed the ride and I was wondering which part of it appealed the most ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ‘Œ

  5. Mmmm . . . I've walked this canal as part of walking the South Pennine Ring, which also involved the Calder and Hebble Navigation, Huddersfield Canals and the Ashton Cannal bringing you back to Castlefield.
