Hi! I'm a cheap-ass with a bad habit of frequently browsing fb marketplace. As a result I've bought several bikes, but they have pretty much ALL been very cheap (~$60) and old, from the 80's. I'm not a super-competitive cyclist, but in the summer would occasionally do group paceline rides with a local shop. I always rode in the D-group, so I'm not setting land speed records or anything, but we would maintain a 20mph-ish paceline for 20-30 miles. I've done occasional longer rides, 40-60 miles, but nothing crazy. Usually this is on an old 80's lugged steel bike with downtube shifters.

I've just seen a 2018 Giant TCR advanced for sale near me, without wheels, listed for $300. It appears to be in pretty good shape, with a Shimano 105 groupset. The owner is also selling an apparently never used pair of Superteam all-carbon wheels for $300. So, I'm not actively looking for another bicycle, I have more than I have room for, buuuuut this kind of seems like a pretty good deal, and maybe a good way to try a modern carbon bicycle on the cheap?

I'm very knowledgeable about vintage bike worth, but not so much with the newer stuff. Thoughts on this? Thanks.

  1. no idea about this question. However, it is great hearing about the $60 bikes. I should look on FB. Craigslist has a few in my area (I should look at more also)

And that is great about your rides. Long rides!

Pedaling about 1 hour, rest, and 1 more hour, was good for me this summer.

After careful inspection, i may buy the bike at this price.

If the wheels are new or good, and are well priced i may also buy them for that price.

Really, a $600 all in carbon frame and wheel bike is a great price.
