Hi, I'm looking for a recommendation for permanent fenders. I'm picking up an aluminum Norco Search next month and I'm trying to get some things out of the way before I get my bike.

The idea is the bike is going to be more of an all road/commuter/trash weather rider, so I want to just have a good set of fenders live on the bike. Not having the bike yet makes some aspects of this a little difficult, so I'm hoping someone with a Search can help me out.

For starters, I see a little hole in the fork next to the thru-axel, is that a mounting point for fenders or something completely different? If possible, I'd want the fenders to bolt on, rather than using zip ties or velcro.

Right now, it looks like the SKS Blumels in 38-47 mm are good candidates. But I'm open to other suggestions.

  1. Those holes are fender mounts and like most fender hole mounts it will take a m4 allen screw.

Aluminum fenders, although more expensive, will be better quality and nicer looking. Velo orange fenders come in a number of different finishes and colours and if mounted correctly will be pretty solid and not rub. PDW make some premium AL fenders, more expensive and a more modern look. They also come from mud guards on the ends.

Something to keep in mind, especially on a gravel bike, is ensuring you have the right size fenders and run the appropriate tire size. if you ride off road be mindful of need mud/gunk clearance.

  2. The Norco Search has full fender mounts and they mention full fender compatibility on their [website](https://imgur.com/a/norco-search-al-fender-compatibility-Zt1uSIB). Looks like the max tire is 45mm to run fenders.

Bluemels are fine fenders, but I’d recommend either getting the model with mud flaps or adding some. That makes a load of difference keeping your feet/legs/BB/crank clean as well as the people who ride behind you.

  3. Trek/Bontrager mudguards are decent, and they are super easy to adjust because of their double stays.
