It seems like the damaged dropout is not only narrower now but it also is out of line with the other dropout. Do I A) bring it to a bike shop B) try to bend it back myself or C) give up and just get a new fork?

Since they are steel, you can grab an adjustable wrench and bend them back, totally fine.

Also make sure to open the qR so it drops into place easier. Steels is kind of forgiving. Like other posts you can kind of adjust it with a wrench if need be. Just make sure nothing else on the frame isn’t bent. Main tube or tubes failure isn’t fun to deal with.

Its fixable. If you want to do it right just heat it and then bend it with something that fits well in groove like a spanner. I used to fix this without heat though when i worked as a mechanic, just to not damage the paint. If it had been an alu fork you can’t bend it like that but you can often just cut the groove just a little and the wheel will still go in and fasten nicely. It bascially often depends on what type of bike it is and your own preferences. All bikes I worked on were cheap so the repairs also needed to be cheap.

Hard to tell from the pics but you sure you aren’t just having troubles getting your closed QR over the lawyer tabs?
