I lived here for two years. Was nice to get a quick gravel side quest in but I did get sick of going out and back in a straight line. Luckily a lot of other great rides in the area.
I was quite shocked how much Cali has fucked all their waterways when I got there. Every river channelized and paved over.

Honestly not sure what looks so fantastic about those roads, but I am probably spoilt.

I’ve ridden a shit load of “gravel” in socal – starting back in the day on a hardtail MTB in the 90’s and many many variations since.
There is so much good back country riding and fire road riding out there.
But expecting to find nice off road riding in the heart of one of the most urbanized zones of earth might be more an issue of expectations. Don’t mean to sound rude but hey there is a LOT of wilderness with great riding in “Southern California” it’s just not all close to the jobs and malls and fast food and all 🙂

Nice! Santa Ana River, Mountains to Sea trail! There’s Pacific gold at the end!

Not the prettiest scenery unfortunately.
