I saw this old photo the the Old road to Highworth as it meandered its way through what looks like peaceful countryside.
The scene is very different today. Now the peaceful scene is one of constant traffic and noise. We have lost so much in our quest for progress!

  1. Great video Sandy. Just about every town and village it seems is having estates added to them almost willy nilly which taxe away a lot of the original character of them.

  2. That was a great Brompton tour Sandy. I really enjoyed it. One long lifetime ago, we lived in a very different world. Two long lifetimes ago even the language was different. Great work on this one Sandy.

  3. Sandy got to thank you, your bucket planting of 3 seed potatoes has given us a harvest of 26 potatoes downunder here in New Zealand. Many thanks and all the best for 2026.

  4. Great to see you out on your Brompton. Have you got any trips planned with your mate (everything but the kitchen sink) Dave on them?

  5. Lovely job Sandy, I think I need to get my Brompton out and about too. I do like the then and now format, did that with some of my railway vids. Cheers.

  6. The BBC could produce something like this instead of their usual drivel. Unfortunately, it would cost £50,000 to produce, and would have to include sections on slavery, colonialism and the plight of women. Thanks for your time Sandy. Best wishes to you and your wife for Christmas and the New Year.

  8. Hi sandy really enjoy the videos you do on your local history you make it very interesting appreciate all the research you do, also like the bike journeys you go on

  9. Great film i used to live at 93 Ermine street . Built in the 1860's. So much interesting history in the area. Sad to see how it's being overwhelmed by development at such a rate. Live in the The North East now but still have fond memories for Swindon.
