Picked up what I assume is an early 2000’s Specialized Allen sport from a local thrift store for $25. I’m down with recent ACL surgery, so this will be a fun project to get it overhauled. I’m a trail rider (MTB, without real mountains), so I’m stoked to get this thing sorted to see what it’s like. It’s got a carbon fork and seatpost (kinda neat).
It has Alex Rims 14 ID wheels – what is the widest tire I can fit on those wheels? It is limited by brake pad clearance (I know a lot about MTB, but not much about road “tech”)?

Tire width will be limited by the frame more than the wheels. Specifically the chain stains, most likely.
