Hello,

I have these amazing bike bags from ortlieb and would like something to organise my stuff inside of them. One holds all of my bike repair gear, rain and extra warm clothing plus things to eat when needed and I'm tired of having sometimes to empty the whole thing to find a pair of sunglasses or a glove. I've been looking into packing cubes as I would like something that is decently waterproof in order to be able to stuff inside wet clothes (weather can be really bad for a long time where I live) without putting water onto everything.

I'm currenty looking at either the patagonia black holes in 3 an 6 litters, but they seem a bit expensive for what they are. I've also taken a look at those ones from Matador.

Does anyone have experience with using something like this or another mean of organising inside the bag ? I know that a plastic bag can do the trick and that's what I've used for a while but I'm looking for something a bit more comfortable to use.

  1. i think you’ll find most folks are just using run of the mill dry bags or stuff sacks because they are cheap. of course they lack the zippers etc of packing cubes but they fold down smaller. i think its more important to develop a system, i use different colored bags and stick to packing same things in them so i know whats in it, where i want to store it on the bike.

  2. I tend to use plastic bags for seperating stuff. Easy. Cheap. Done.

Typically you have to go through everything Every time for the first 2-3 days. Than stuff gets sorted. Quick access stuff like jackets are on top. The spare parts and tools are in the lower part.

    Sorts over time.

  3. I have this insert from ortlieb that holds pens, has a pocket for documents, hooks onto the inside of the bag, and has a lanyard for pulling it out. It is amazing. If they still make it it would probably be in their catalog. It’s so convenient to just yank out maps, brochures, and stuff. Since it’s up against the inside of the bag it minimizes the chance papers get crumpled.

And like other posters I mainly just kept stuff in color coded stuff sacks. Never really enjoyed that though.

Edit: it looks like they don’t make it anymore. Bummer.
