Hey, I am having trouble setting up this front rack and cantilever brakes. Anyone got ideas on what might work.

Currently the pull of the brakes is fairly limited as the triangle hits the rack mount. As the pads have worn it's much more noticeable.

I'm fairly okay at bike mechanics but cantis are not my strong point. Is there a way I can set the triangle much lower? Or above the mount?

Thanks!

  1. Probably your best bet it to either have the rack mount below the straddle cable, or make a new rack mount which gives plenty of clearance above the straddle cable. Which to choose depends on your personal skills and preference.

Getting a longer straddle cable will change the geometry of the brakes and give less mechanical advantage => weaker brakes. Not adviseable.

  2. Is it possible to flip the fork crown mount upside down and lower the rack? Put the yoke above the mount? If not, I’d fabricate a different support.
