I have a shimano m6000 rear hub (https://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=94587&attribute=231557&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=793175996&gclid=Cj0KCQiAo4TKBhDRARIsAGW29bcKCT27P13jTz0jlJ9qZbSpTMl5tO8XNi-OwVekBZya_4qnZns8Qo8aAmDGEALw_wcB) that I laced up for a touring wheel

It’s a shimano HG free hub body. 8-10 speed

My question – anyone ever just try to put a shimano road freehub body that’s 11spd compatible on one of these modern mountain hubs? (They’re 1.85mm longer)

I rather not have to relace the wheel. I’m aware of the hg700 and hg800 11-34 cassettes that are 11spd and fit on older 10spd free hub bodies

I’d like to avoiding machining the free hub body or road cassette down.

As far as I’m aware all of the 11x freehubs that are similar in construction like FH-RS400 or WH-R010, the splined freehub boss on the hub is a different diameter in addition to being sunk into the hub more than the MTB hubs. I’d be stoked to be wrong, I’d love to put an 11x freehub on my XT756 hub for silly Shimergo reasons

  2. Just run an 11-34 11s cassette, then you don’t need a free hub. Anything 11s and 11-34 or greater (11-36, 11-42, etc) will fit an 8,9,10 freehub.

Edit: Just saw you don’t want to do that, but it’s what I would do.
