How to get into cycling when none of your friends or people you know are into it. The first thing to do is to get a bike. I think there's a lot of misconceptions here that you need like a super expensive bike. You can typically find a used road bike for under $500. Just Google like what size to get a road bike and you'll figure out what size you are. Look on Facebook to find a bike that would fit you. The idea is just to like get started and then once you're riding it consistently, you can graduate to a nicer bike. Then after that, make sure you get a helmet under $100. You want to get MIP. You can also get one of those like padded shorts. I'd say start with Pearlizoomi before you try to get fancy. The other debate will be around should you get clipless pedals or truly ignore all of that. Start riding with flat pedals. Ride with your sneakers and get out there. For a road bike, you have to like step into the frame and then start pedaling before you get onto the seat. So, practice that first in a safe space. I would recommend taking it into a bike shop. Ask a pro for the handlebars and the seat heights and like the relative right position. Really the hardest part is figuring out routes to ride around. Have like a nice like bike path or creek. Start with that. You can download Strava. You can see if there's like a route near you. And the main thing is just to get on the bike consistently. Try to go a couple times a week and just build up your cardio. You clearly have very little cardio which is why I'm panting. So yeah, hopefully this gets you on a bike outside. Don't worry about the stats or anything. I'm not panting. Air pen.

  1. Re shoes and flat peddles. Get something like indoor soccer shoes for flat peddles. Their souls are stiff giving you a bit more leverage and push on the peddles. Running shoes with those soft cushioning soles absorb pressure and increase the effort needed to peddle.
