Hi,

While working on my bike, I removed the top cap and found the compression plug already in this condition in the carbon steerer (photo attached).

The red material is grease from the top-cap bolt.

The plug doesn’t look damaged, but I’m unsure if it’s seated correctly or if it should be replaced as a precaution.

What do you think — replace or reuse?

Appreciate your advice.

Look up how a compression plug works and inspect/reuse. Highly unlikely there is any damage but nobody on the internet is going to be able to tell you anything based on this picture.

If you don’t feel comfortable tightening it to spec and installing stem to spec as well take it to your local shop.
