  1. Consult your BB or frame manual, I can say that Shimano BBs recommend to use 2 spacers depending on the chain line

  2. When the axle is a part of the crank and not the bottom bracket, no. It’s not normal. You’ll need an other spacer or the bottom bracket is not wide enough or the crank axle too long.

  3. I bought those same cranks like 8 years ago and couldn’t get them to work. They wouldn’t sit evenly on the bike and so the crank arms weren’t the same distance away from the chainstays.

    I believe you have the same bike, do you happen to recall a gap on drive side?

  5. You don’t want the crank rubbing against the BB (outer part) as the crank rotates, so I assume some gap is necessary. I use a few washers as spacers.
