Nah but I dig there’s still a ton of local frame makers that will build you one

They look good and maybe I would want one for a short cola ride (I don’t drink coffee) but I couldn’t do long rides with one anymore, they were just not as comfortable, the gearing was only for pro’s, the tire clearance was abysmal and the braking (with carbon rims) was horrible if you were a bit heavier than the regular pro.

There is a ’92 Serotta Colorado TG for sale near me for $500. 😆

You just long for times when you could actually do something with it.

Yes, all my bikes all look like this. Long term theres nothing better for the body then riding steel. Hand-built steel is real.

When did the Cervello super prodigy changed it looks?
Ride what you want. No one forces you to switch out your steel rim brake 6 speed.

honestly, no. i think that sleek contemporary frames without excessive aero features are the best looking bicycles ever. A few examples are the Orbea Orca, Giant TCR, Cervelo R5, Standert Kreissage.
some custom frames by Stelbel, Mosaic and No.22 are literal works of art on wheels.
i don’t think anything from the past can compare on terms of looks, comfort, and performance.
i think people who love old things just miss being 20 years old and full of enthusiasm.

Nope. When I trained and raced in the 80’s steel bikes were the standard. The new carbon are in my view are the epitome. I still think vintage bikes are cool. But new bikes are like space ships. I dig it.

Steel framed bikes still offer a certain something. There’s a planted, secure feel that Alu and Carbon bikes cannot replicate. Also steel has a degree of flex that absorbs vibrations. For race tech ofc we’ve moved to super light materials and that’s great but steel absolutely still has a time and place.

No. And I say that as a huge fan of vintage bikes, especially old enough to participate in Eroica.
But modern aero frames with one piece handlebars and deep wheels are just beyond cool. There is something to be said about the attractiveness of cutting edge stuff. Same thing as with F1. F1 cars from 50s and 60s or from late 80s are cool as hell, but modern stuff is also incredible to look at.

Joining the “no” train on this one.

I might be in the minority, but to me, aero bicycles are ugly, with their complicated and incoherent tubes, thick on one place, thin on other. There are some that look better, but there is still nothing more elegant than straight, thin tubes of steel bicycles.
Of course, this is only about aesthetics: I am sure, that the new carbon aero bicycles with modern components must ride damn good. But aesthetically, I just do not like how they look.

Yes. I don’t get the Cybertruck-school of frame design (and clothing) at all. I can accept that taste is just different, but imho a bicycle isn’t supposed to look “mean” or “cool”. Sport, or even just riding around town, is meant to be about having fun, no? Why not have some colors?
