Either should be fine. But the FX1 has Shimano Cues groupset. It’s easier to maintain since you don’t have a front derailleur.

The Dual Sport has way more gears, but having a front derailleur with 3 gears in the front is kind of daunting for beginners. It’s more complicated. The benefits are having more gears.

But I also live in a hilly area and the 1×8 Microshift Acolyte on my hybrid bike is a joy to use. The gears go very low for climbing up steep hills. Shimano Cues will only be better. You’ll get a 1×9 at the very least (depending on the configuration). I don’t miss having a front derailleur. It’s something less to worry about.
