I am thinking about to modernise my drivetrain with another derailleur. Sooner or later it had to be done. I think I can find out what is compatible to what by myself but this derailleur hanger leaves me clueless.

l looked under this cover with the silver circle… No srew head under it as well as on the other side. How is it attached or do I need another derrailleur hanger for this bike if I want to exchange the derailleur?

  1. I probably wouldn’t bother for that frame.

But if you’re set on it, you may need a claw hanger to attach a new derailleur to.

  2. The derailleur hanger is bolted onto the dropout. It’s held on by that bolt with the screwhead cut into it and the axle nut.

The problem is that you only get low-end derailleurs with this type of hanger, Shimano Tourney variants like the RD-TY500, and that also means your sprocket compatibility is limited to 7 speed freewheels or cassettes.

Based on your picture alone I’m thinking it’s new bike time, or at least new-to-you bike time.
