Even though according to Canyon sizing table I am a clear L, I got the advice from my local Canyon store to go for a M. I am currently riding a Canyon Endurace in L and I struggle with one-sided shoulder and elbow pain on long rides. I never did a fitting with my Endurace but will do so with the Aeroad.
Do you have any advices or opinions here?

I would be careful because of your height. M is recommended for sub 184cm and your height seems to be 187cm. If you are in Germany (the pic is German) I would recommend to try out the sizes at Canyon.
And if you feel pain after your rides I can highly recommend a professional bike fit.
