Hi, I'm venting. Ordered a Salsa Journeyer Sora 700c https://www.salsacycles.com/products/2022-journeyer-sora-700c (old model) in size 51. I am short and on my other bikes I use a 165 crank length, that was determined during a bike fit. In the past, two different repair shops when they changed the crankset put back a 170 crank arm instead of the 165. I know that this is minor, but I could immediately feel the difference. So because of my "history with crank arms" when I got my new Salsa bike yesterday, I checked it, and although on the website they say it is 165, they delivered it with 170. Took it back to the shop, they told me that on Salsa's website it is also stated that "Specifications are subject to change without notice". But come on, a crank arm? Do I have a case with Salsa?

I had that issue that the handlebar stem didn’t match the website. I’m guessing they only got one size in the delivery box that day.
If you haven’t ridden it, you have the option to take it back.
It’s not minor and shows them to inept in fixing or preparing bikes. Move on I wouldn’t give them anymore custom. I’d also tell them why so they can improve.
I’m also 165mm. If I buy a bike with 165mm I expect it to arrive with them. I’d send the bike back or get them to pay for the change.
Good bike manufacturers don’t do this.
In UK 🇬🇧 your covered with a minimum basic of 30 days full refund. Most manufacturers improve on this. I also always use my credit card for such purposes. I have in the past, when I had a difficult refund from an airline, got my money back in 10 days from the credit card company.
What type of case? A legal one? For a $75 crank, it’s certainly not worth it. It’s absolutely annoying, and I would reach out to Salsa to see if they are willing to do anything, but most likely you should just replace the crank and move on with your life.
I will say, your shop kind of sucks. I was getting a Salsa Vaya years ago, and the stock build came geared a bit differently than I wanted. My shop said it’s not a problem, and they just swapped out the parts, and said they would use the other components on some other build. I feel like instead of saying, too bad, there is this little technicality on the Salsa website, they could have easily swapped out the super commonly used 170mm crank for a 165mm one for you, either for free or at a discount. The fact they just blew you off would make me reconsider doing business with them. I get that Salsa says specs can change, but any bike shop should at least acknowledge that just randomly changing crank length is a pretty reasonable grievance for you to have.
If specifications are subject to change then so is my willingness to own this bicycle. Return it for a refund.
