You’ll have much more leverage trying to compress the suspension out by the wheel. Using a crowbar on any part, especially near the pivots where you’re having to apply a lot of force, is likely to cause damage, so don’t do that anymore.

Unsolicited advice but a steel screw extractor should be able to get that stripped shock mounting hardware out when the time comes for service.
